About

I have a B.F.A. from The Cooper Union School of Art in NYC. I have worked as an illustrator and graphic artist for large corporations such as Hartz, Wardley, L&M Animal Farms; educational institutions such as C.W. Post University, SUNY Old Westbury, Syracuse University: School of Information Technology; and numerous non profits.

All during this time, I have painted, exhibiting my work in solo and group shows nationally, with the result that my work is in many private collections in the U.S. as well as England, Sweden and Germany. Having grown up on a small island in the Bronx at the throat of Long Island Sound, my fine artwork was primarily nautical in nature utilizing watercolors. Within the past 15 years I have been painting more with oils, and even more recently with acrylics.

I am a resident artist of the Village Gallery in Oriental, NC.

Within the past 6 years I have begun to focus in a new direction with my work. Formerly, I concentrated on nautical scenes which reflected my upbringing in the nautical community of City Island, New York. My new body of work, which I simply refer to as "Reef People," while also maritime in nature, is a departure from traditional realism. It reflects my understanding of the world's coral reefs as a barometer of the health of our total world environment. The bleaching of the reefs is a serious warning sign that we need to get serious about solving our waste, pollution and global warming issues. These works which utilize collaging with paint skins, which are my versions of fantastical corals, and direct painting are about us, as intelligent beings, "becoming one" with the world's reefs in a sense. Raising our sensitivity to the impact we have on our environment, and ultimately, on one another. Healing problems through intelligent connection.
